Liza Minelli was born on March 12, 1946, in Hollywood, California. She is the oldest of her mother’s three children. Her mother, of course, was Judy Garland and her father the film director Vincente Minelli. He was the second of Miss Garland’s five husbands. In 1951 Liza’s parents divorced. 

Liza spent most of her childhood in Hollywood, and she often liked (a) ______ her mother’s or father’s film sets at the MGM Studios. She was interested in everything to do with making films, but she especially enjoyed (b) ______ dancers such as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and Cyd Clarisse. ‘I learned all their dances,’ Liza Minelli (c) ______ in an interview in 1972, ‘and I went home and practised them all in front of the mirror.’ When she was (d) ______ two and a half years old she appeared in her first movie, called "In the Good Old Summertime", and five years later she danced on the stage of the Palace Theatre in New York.

She has had an interesting life, but it has not always been easy for her. She was an alcoholic for many years and has also had problems with drugs.
